// problem

A prominent open-source software developer facing federal criminal charges needed a legal defense fund, and the community behind the project rallied to support it. The case had drawn international attention as a test of developer liability, and the legal costs were significant. Fundraising had already begun through fragmented channels and raised over $5 million, but donations were scattered across multiple platforms with no central destination, no unified branding, and no consolidated compliance oversight.

The campaign needed a dedicated fundraising site that could accept donations via multiple routes (cryptocurrency and traditional), handle compliance and KYC requirements given the legal sensitivity of the case, present the story clearly to a global audience, and be live as fast as possible. Legal defense timelines don’t wait for product roadmaps.

// how we solved it

We built the platform from zero to minimum lovable product in 6 weeks. The scope included front-end design and development (using our in-house web designer for visual identity and UX), integration of multiple cryptocurrency donation routes across platforms already in use by the community, implementation of a compliance layer including KYC review for applicable donation thresholds, responsive design for global accessibility, and a content structure that presented the legal context, case timeline, and fundraising goals clearly.

The 6-week timeline was non-negotiable. Legal proceedings were active, public attention was high, and fragmented donation channels were creating confusion and compliance risk. We ran a compressed delivery cycle: week one for scoping and design, weeks 2–4 for core build and integrations, week 5 for compliance review and testing, and week 6 for launch preparation and deployment.

The platform went live on schedule and served as the central hub for the defense campaign, consolidating previously scattered donation channels into a single, branded, compliant experience.

// outcome
